Brunch at Bayou

My roommate and I went to have brunch today at Bayou, which is a fantastically delicious place to grab brunch near North Ave and the east side/riverwest. I had a salmon omelet with a weird but satisfying combination of salmon, tomato, cream cheese and egg topped with mango chutney and with a side of potatoes done just the way I like them.

East Side Walks: Monkey Business

Sometimes, a little monkey business in order. And sometimes, there's a little monkey randomly hanging out in a tree near your place of business.

Impromptu Coat Rack

Maybe it's a sign of the times, maybe the homeless are becoming more entrenched in my neighborhood, or maybe the installation artists have gotten a little too creative. Not sure if it's using the parking lot sign as a coat rack or as an urban scarecrow.

East Side Personal Ad

Ok, so this is admittedly not my personal ad (in case you were wondering) but I saw this walking around my neighborhood today. Now, I have to say, it's kind of original, if not a little...in your face. For the sake of whoever wrote it, I hope Bike Guy sees it and takes heed. Unless he's a serial killer. In which case I hope he doesn't see it, and that it rains soon.

Things Come Full Circle

I'm not sure anyone's paid attention to my blog that long, but last summer I was intrigued and perplexed by the artwork on the side of an East Side store. (See original post here). After seeing the one fish, I searched all over the East Side in search of the two fish (from Dr. Suess). Then, a friend was kind enough to point me in the right direction last night: it was here the whole time, on the side of a gas station sign on Prospect Ave. Things do come full circle, after all.

East Side Walks: Junk in the Trunk

I think by definition, any junk truck can be considered to have junk in it's trunk.

Well...what do you expect? It's winter in Wisconsin.

It only looks like this 7 months out of the year around here. I'm kidding. Mostly.

East Side Walks- Part 5

Know I really know I live in Milwaukee. Someone had the world famous Bratwurst of the world famous Milwaukee Brewers 7th Inning Stretch Sausage Races in their front lawn. Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore (or New York, either).

East Side Walks- Part 4

Not old-time, but pretty artsy...there were more than one of these billboards in the area, but this one seemed the most ridiculous to me.

East Side Walks- Part 3

Nothing says Milwaukee, and "good, old time flavor" like an old-time Pabst sign.

East Side Walks- Part 2

More quirky Milwaukee East Side finds. Dr. Suess would be proud, but for the life of me, I couldn't find a single wall in the whole area that had 'one fish' written on it.

East Side Walks- Part 1

So I began taking occasional walks in my new neighborhood- Milwaukee's East Side. This grocery store was the first fun thing I saw, not only is it closed, it's quite proud to be shut as well.

Divided we live separately...

Last night I had the opportunity to go hang out on the East Side and see some stellar jazz music. What caught my eye for today's picture, however, was not the musicians but a sign we passed on our way to the jazz club. Not only is it street art, but it's true, and let's face it, a little odd.
